In addition, why is it that some issues are given such vast importance (homosexuality) and others are looked over like it's no big deal (premarital sex) if they are both spoken against in the bible? How about eating shell fish and cutting your hair and having sex with a menstruating female? Where are the laws against these things?

I asked this question in the Religon & Spirituality section also and am getting some pretty good answers.
I have noticed that a few people have said to me that the whole shell fish, hair cutting, etc issue is either from the book of Leviticus or Mosaic law and can therefore be ignored. This seems strange to me since one of the most commonly quoted passages from the bible against homosexuality is from the book of Leviticus. That is an enormous double standard.

Why should I "give it a rest?" That's weird, I thought yahoo answers was to ask questions on.

To answer your question in the eyes of man homosexuality is the far worse than premarital sex. But in the eyes of God one sin is not worse than another. As a Christian I am against gay marriage and homosexuality period. Being that we live in the United States, I know that everyone doesn't share my beliefs and I don't have right to force that on anyone. So in my opinion gays should be allowed to be married, but no one should be forced to marry them. Those preachers who have no problem with marrying gays, should do what they want, that will be between them and God.

Marriage is not a religious issue its a society issue. In days of old each King or Lord had their own church building on the estate. The Church was just the record keeper because Clergy could read and write. The King/Lord decieded who could marry.
No one has a right to marry. Marriage has its own rules to protect society and property rights.
The insane cant marry , cousins can t marry (except in Europe,ha ha) nor can sibblings ect. because it leads to recessive genes becomimg dominant, like hemophelia.
Animals stray from heterosexual sex to satifiy lust. Ever have a dog hump your leg? Homosexual activity is considered to be a lack of control over your body. Premariral pregnancy is frowne d upon. It leaves a child unprotected in society.Even Egyptian Woman used birth control so they could play and not pay.
In Biblical times some men had many wives but that is no longer a valid custom. If you follow furtility guide lines you will see you cant get pregnant while menstruating. Sex was for procration not recration.
Food restrictions were for health reasons. The food was forbiden beacause those animials or fish were bottom feeders. They ate waste and garbage. To eat their flesh was to eat other animals poop.
Hair was a womans Crowmimg Glory and desireable for being a healty bride. Woman who were traders to the family by siding with the enemy had their heads shaveed as a sign of disgrace.
Gay marriage is illegal due to sodomy laws. Marriage laws dictate that the partners have intercource to seal the contract. Oral and anal sex are concidered sodomy. They dont qualify in marriage because neither method will produce children and either method can produce illness.
Western Culture has converted sex into a recreational sport. Read your history to see what free love did to other civilations, not pretty.
There are grate gays and lousie straingts but sexual prefference does't define a person. I can turn off the tv , not buy a magixine or not patronize an establishment that offends me.
Against these things there is no law.

lmao let's hope they don't get those laws passed!
What I often hear christians say is you need to read the bible with common sense so things about not eating shellfish or cutting your hair can be dismissed. Because they are stupid. Obviously. While things like thou shalt not kill you can see a pretty sensible reason why that's a good idea. They just haven't gotten round to questioning why on earth homosexuality would be wrong when it doesn't hurt anybody by any stretch of the imagination. And when telling people they are evil for being attracted to someone or for falling in love often causes massive psychological damage. The general public will eventually get over it, just the same as they got over premarital sex being a big deal.

I see what you're saying, even if Randy, CJ, and the dwarf can't wrap their minds around it.
The point is, any law based on religious doctrine is bound to be oppressive to someone - usually large groups of people - and can be very arbitrary, as well. Why are we standardizing behavior based on the patriarchal society of thousands of years ago, anyway?

I know you might find this hard to believe, but as a serious studier of the Bible over the past 20 years, I have found NO words in the Bible that "outlaw" or ban premarital sex. Homosexuality, yes . . . it is banned very specifically. Premarital sex, no, . . . it is NOT banned, in either Old or New Testament. God Bless you.

ok we could take this one by one. I do agrea the "Christian perfect" is overly centred on Homosexuality and gay Marriage. additionally they must be centred on the insane divorce costs and permarital intercourse. the project is corresponding to the project with Alochol. Our soceity may be a extra advantageous soceity if no person drank Alochol, much less deaths and different stupid issues might take place. regrettably it replaced into leagle for an prolonged time so all of us have been given use to it and whilst it replaced into made ileagle it made a gigantic element of the inhabitants outlaws which in simple terms does not artwork. same with permarital intercourse, if i ought to flow back to 1900 i might attempt to make it unlawful in this united states of america and it could stick and dramtically advance the wellness of our society interior the long-term. besides the undeniable fact that now it is very easy place making it unlawful does not provide up people from doing it, it would in simple terms lead them to outlaws. besides the undeniable fact that gay marriage isn't leagle in maximum places yet, so this is style of like the tale of pandoras container, whilst the container replaced into oppened up it enable all this undesirable stuff interior the international it does not propose there replaced into no evaluate ultimate it so hopelesness does not get loose. So with gay marriage christians have faild to guard our soceity from many different ethical hazards yet there continues to be a raffle to renounce this. as far because of fact the different issues like Shell fish and cutting your hair, those are commonly in Leviticus it extremely is a e book of regulations set by potential of God for the jews they don't practice to apply "saved" gentiles. God made them for jews for 2 motives a million. to make the jews diverse 2. in assessment to you and that i who have already got a govrnment and regulations they did not so the easy christian regulations we've been given weren't sufficient to run a society of former slaves.

Stop giving the religious right idea's or we will be back to the morality squad - Don't try to explain the contridictions to yourself either -
One thing though I have learned is what you are afraid of the most is what you tend to acuse others of -- If your a thief you are on the look out for getting your stuff stolen if you tend to cheat on your partener you tend to assume your partner is cheating on you
Most people afraid of gays and who make the most noise about it tend to be closet gays -
Shakespeare's "Me thinks thou dost protest too much" if you will

You're speaking of Mosaic Law, and Christians are not under Mosaic Law. Perhaps if you knew Christian doctrine better, you wouldn't ask such questions.
