One of the more interesting things you can do in this case is to take a personality test (see web link below). This kind of "sorting" of likes and dislikes can give you a heads-up on some career areas you might have never before considered.

Once you figure out where your interests lie, then check out the similar minds site (see web link below) and key in your career of interest. Then complete the survey and you will find how well suited you are for that area. You can take the test again and again, entering the different careers that interst you.

Of course no test is perfect and there are always going to be certain circumstances and events which may make you change your mind what you want to do and where you are going.

I'd recommend doing a personality/career match wholeheartedly. You might be pleasantly surprised by what you discover about yourself, and may even learn something new...

Also you should consider your attitudes about work. Do you want a challenging job, one that is the same everyday, or one that you can do in your sleep? Do you want to work alone or with people? Are you a nine-to-fiver, or more spontaneous? Do you prefer interaction with others or would you rather do solo work? Are you interested in a career that will bring personal satisfaction or more interested in making a lot of money? Do you want to work in an office? Outdoors?

Also, your own abilities and interests come into play here. The ideal career will combine something that you like to do with a suitable reward for doing it. Are you physically fit? Are you literate? Are you comfortable speaking in front of others, explaining things or giving directions? Make a list of where your interests lie and then do some digging.

Finally, the last link listed below is a very comprehensive site for career guidance. Its pages were modeled after a very good career guidance foundation course. If you follow through the exercises, you will end up with essentially a free career counseling. If you have the time and patience to complete the exercises, (there are 3), you will end up with some figures that will lead you into areas in which you might succeed.

Even if you start on a specific degree, there is no reason you can't change your mind if you find something more interesting. It's just very helpful to have a good general idea of what you'd like to do before you get started.

Best of luck and hang in there!

!) Pick several universities with many majors. Go to their website and tour each department. You may see a major that you never thought about but really interests you. It could not hurt to look.

2) Think about what you could do in life that would make you happy. Focus on what major or skill would help you do that.

When you do go to college you don't have to pick a major right away.
