Please help i'm going crazy trying to figure this out.

On their vacation the Reiko's spent 1/4 of ther money on gas, 3/5 of there money on food, and 1/8 of their money on attractions.
a) How much money did they spend? I figured that part out they spent 39/40 of their money.
b) If they started out with $1840 how much money did they have left? That's the one that i can't seem to figure out.

Yes, that makes sense. So all you have to do is:
1840/40 = 46 and then times it by 39 to work out how much money they spent
= $1794

Then subtract $1794 from $1840 = $46

they have spent 39/40 of their money so they are left with 1/40 of $1840 which is $46

They have 1 - 39/40 of their money left.

That's 1/40.

So the answer is 1/40 * $1840, aka $1840/40 = $46.

let their initial amount be $x.
reiko spends (1/4)x + (3/5)x +(1/8)x = (39/40)x
given x=1840.
he spends (39/40)*1840 = 1794
so he is left with (1840-1794) dollars = $46.

$1840 so you divide 1840 by 40. which is 46. so then you times 39 X 46. you end up with 1794. then subtract 1794 from 1840 = $46. SO 46 DOLLARS iS THE ANSWER

cross-multiply
(39/40)(x/1840)
x=((39)(1840))/40
x=$1794 (money spent)
1840-1794=$46 left
