How long did it take? When did you stop craving them?

I had a rough time trying several times.
The final time came about 3 years ago. Prices kept going up so I was starting to smoke less. I was on vacation from work when I ran out and decided to just not buy any more. I didn't smoke the last few all at once, I lit one, smoked a Little, and put it out for later. I did this for the last 4 or 5. I made them last me a couple of days because I only lit one when i REALLY needed it. When they were gone I spent the next couple of days looking through the ashtray and finishing up a few that still had a hit left (ewwww)
I think the key to the whole thing is no stress (vacation from work) tapering off (smoking less than a pack) and having just a little available to get rid of the worst cravings (one or two hits from one when really needed)
Keep trying, you are the only one who can make you quit.
Please remember to not be a pain in the @ss about quitting when you finally can do it. I hate ex-smokers with a "holier than thou" attitude. I nave been around smokers since I quit and even let them smoke in my car, no big deal. If they quit, good. If they can't, I'm not going to preach to them.
Good Luck

3 weeks until the smoker inside you dies
Do not fall for the smoker's promises
Then you get ghost echos of the smoker
Dream smoking will happen
10 years and i still get that "wow a smoke would be great right now"
but it only lasts nano-seconds

Try keeping a pack around the house. Just knowing you have them might help. It does. Just don't go opening it!

It took like three tries for me,

You have to develope the habit of NOT smoking.

I quit so I could sing better.
