This is a hard question to answer without all of the necessary information.
Did this come from something online? If it did, I'd say be careful. There probably IS no prize.
Otherwise, trust your judgment. Stay wary, however. Usually if someone is requesting money for any sort of contest or prize, it is not a legit company.

This is a common scam, it's designed to just get your money. No legitmate prize requires a person to pay for it. In many places in the world, companies that give away prizes must be registered with the government.
In cases such as these ask the company for proof of their government status. The next is where will your name be published, as most prizes are used for promotions? Also, if a company claims you won a contest, but you didn't enter, you haven't won.
There is a new e-mail scam on this topic, it's from England says its Ford connected to the London 2012 Olympics, but that's rubbish, it failed the above.

Its a con. If someone sent 10000 of these out to people, and only 1% of the people sent 20 pounds, the scammers would make 2000 pounds. Not bad for an afternoons work..
