In London? A Ford Mustang convertible? For a 17 year old? I assume you're not from London. A Ford maybe, though not likely. A Mustang? No.
Nancy Drew in London. Then the answer would still be no.
Mustang is American, and very hard to get a hold of in the UK unless you have the dough for it.
Get a hang of the type of cars that people in England actually drive. Get a hang of the type of cars readily available in England. If the girl is English (or more likely, British- trust me about the semantics of this) then she'd be swanning around in a Mini Cooper, a Vauxhall or a Rover. If she were from a rich family then an Aston Martin or a Jaguar.
Get to know car types also. Mustangs are available in the US, hence left-hand drive. UK- right hand drive. Only a very limited no. of Mustangs are made for right-hand drive. If your character wanted a bad driving experience then yes she might have a left hand drive car in a right hand driving country but I doubt it. Very few people would choose a left hand drive car as their mode of transport everyday in the UK.
For about 22,000 pounds you can get a used Ford Mustang in the UK though. But the price would be between 25 and 50,000 pounds for a racier looking car.
Ostentatious? Yes in the UK. She'd look classier in an Aston Martin. Provided her family is rich and she's not living in the East End. Then the story would be full of flaws.

Go, skip, trot, pace steeplechase to college, or if it's London, attempt university. get an education then a grasp of the REAL world, do you really think that this site will ever professionally advice you??? it's like Jeopardy, some with good intentions some not, I try at times, but sooo tired of aspiring/expiring authors'--if you had talent why are you here??? well. good luck, incidentally old school mustangs (new model exempted) nothing to the cameras', so yes shop it around , the pound is strong, well you know that Euro stuff/. i am not being pretentious or derogatory just enjoy the site as i assume we all do--but no a mu8stange would be ostentatious in London, as would the euro. Just be grateful for the ride. on the pond sterling.(sp)(sic)

My best advice to you is write what you know. It sounds like you're not from London, not from the UK at all, and so perhaps you should consider setting your story in a more familiar environment. Many writers in the beginning seek faraway locales in which to set their stories, as those they're familiar with just seem boring or dull. But familiarity can lend a sense of intimacy to your story. It will make it more realistic than if you try to write about some place you've never lived, and probably never visited.

She'd be far more likely to not have a car at all. Many Londoners feel there's little point when you can hop the tube for so little, and walking would be faster than trying to find a parking spot.

She might if her parents bought it for her. I wouldn't think it was too ostentatious if that were the case. Otherwise, she'd probably have a Honda Civic. They're cheap, get good gas mileage, and are pretty popular!
