why does it do that, and how can i change it? I have my tcp/ip set to assign ip automatically, so it should be able to have dynamic ip address. I have windows xp.

When you use ipconfig/renew it won't always give you a different address. It will give you the next available one from your modem or router. The router or modem is assigning the ip address and therefore makes it dynamic. If you want a different ip address you can manually configure your tcp/ip settings through network connections in control panel.

well if the IP is working for the computer, it only makes logic that the computer should use that IP. set a static that is compatable with your router and that should help.
