Catalytic converters have been standard equip since 2002. Now the new emissions that came out for the 2007 model year require a Catalytic convertor AND a Diesel Particulate Filter in the exhaust systems. Takes out the nitrous oxides or NOx and soot.

diesel exhaust doesn't generally get hot enough to run a cat. it may have some filter device though. PSP10 is the particles that need to be filtered
