The flag is red, white and red (like the Canadian flag but without the maple leaf). Red is for the blood spilled in search of freedom and white for the pure peace that the army of liberation was seeking after freedom was achieved.
The coat of arms, which all official flags carry, has a vicuña (kindda like a llama, but smaller and with a more expensive wool than alpaca or llamas), the quinine tree (from where the cure for malaria was extracted) and the horn of plenty.

the red on the sides symbolize the blood spilled by the Incas, heroes, and libertadores (freed Peru from Spanish colony) and and the white represents purity of peace, freedom and justice.
The alternative version of the flag "pabellon nacional" has the coat of arms in the center. The legitimate flag is the two red bands around a central white band (no coat of arms)

The colors are said to symbolize the Incas and their lasting impact on the country. Also, red and white are the colors chosen by Jose de San Martin, The Liberator. The coat of arms (not shown on the national flag) features a llama and chichona tree, important symbols of Peru, and a centered cornucopia representing prosperity.
