Taxonomy is the science of identification & naming of species & organising them into system of classification. The names taxonomists give to species just don't tell us what they are called, but also tell us about how they are related to one another. This can help us to identify patterns in nature & decide how to protect the individual species that are part of the world's biodiversity.
There are 30 million species of plants , animals & microorganisms living on the earth. Everyone of them play a part in the global ecosystem.Taxonomists have identified & named only 1.7 million species ( approx.) so far. They have prepared a list of names & identification tools in the form of species databases, field guides, collection & reference works. These tools help conservationists to understand biodiversity & help ways to protect it.
There are no disadvantages in this sytem if one learns how to use it.
But at present there is a shortage of taxonomists & taxonomic expertise. Since you have raised this question you can become one & help in conservation of species.

Advantages of taxonomy include being able to group living things for simultaneous study, having a single name for each organism (instead of multiple common names depending on region), and being able to illustrate the relationships among different groups of organisms. Disadvantages include a certain degree of arbitrary choice in taxonomic assignments, the use of names that may not be familiar to laypeople, and the need to change classifications if evolutionary paths are shown to differ from previous assumptions.

I think any answer we give would be detrimental to you learning how science works. Think about this system critically. If you had twenty animals and you wanted to classify them using the established system, what problems might you run into?
I can give you an advantages you should have been taught by your teacher, however. The system provides a universal system for naming. Once an animal is named and categorized using the binomial nomenclature system, every scientist in the world will call it that. You can get over language barriers, so you don't have one person calling it a lion, another a singam, another a simba, etc.

advantage : it is systematic, + ...
disadvantage : you have to hvae some knowledge of the area that is catagorized,
in reality objects could be part of two categorises, in the taxonomy they can not, the categories can be very artificiel.
update : a taxonomy is not only used for organisms/plants.
