Every guy I've ever dated in San Francisco LOVES Perry's on Union Street. I don't get the attraction -- to me its nothing special, your basic one notch above TGI Friday's chain food kind of fare. Classic American bar and grille menu - ribs, meat loaf, steaks, chops, lots of imported beers. Edible, but not very creative, big portions. It's just a no-frills guy kinda heaven I guess, so if you are prepared to sacrifice cuisine and ambience to make your guy happy and comfortable, this is probably the right place. And it's Union Street, so you can always cruise for a trendier place to have a drink after dinner.

Tadich Grill 240 California-The Original Cold Day Restaurant: An old boy’s kind of place that has been around since 1849. Great seafood, chops and sourdough. Stiff drinks, no reservations, but counter seats are first come first served.
Clement Street Bar and Grill, Clement at 8th Avenue fish, pasta, meat, burgers, salad something for everyone. A neighborhood institution for good reason.
E&O Trading Post – 314 Sutter – Asian Fusion – Indian Thai and Chinese dishes
Café Macaroni – Columbus at Jackson – Italian food, opt for smaller space on east side of Columbus
La Mediterranee on Noe at Castro great Middle Eastern food, friendly, intimate and inexpensive.

Have you tried Betelnut? It's probably best described as Asian fusion cooking. It attracts a young clientel, has great, imaginitive food, and also has some booths where you two can snuggle up. You do need a reservation because it is popular.

Fresca: Peruvian food in the Fillmore. Good seafood, steak, Paella.
Isa's on Steiner. Very nice, but if he is a big eater be advised small plates (tapas style)
Circolo: Latin Fusion, like a lounge. SOMA
Clementine: French Bistro. Richmond district
Le Chapeau: Also French.

Luna Park in the Mission on Valencia. Hip decor. The menu, mostly French and Italian with a few American and Asian accents (so anything from big salads, pasta to seafood and steak). My all-time favorite. Entrees range from $12 to around $25. www.lunaparksf.com

I really loved the Stinking Rose. Everything has garlic in it. My husband and I both love garlic, so it's a good match. And it has a really neat atmosphere.
