People's thinking is based on past influences and experiences and shared perceptions with others. People are motivated to seek pleasure and avoid pain, so they tend to stick to whatever makes them feel happier and safer or more secure. Because of fear of the unknown or fear of change, only when there is adequate proof or motivation to change their minds will people do so. This tends to occur either through education, or meeting someone who influences changes in perceptions, or reconciling a past conflict, such as when people resolve or forgive a past issue that was blocking them from seeing things a different way.
