The detail that sticks out to me is that you have been engaged for two years. Why did you mention it? Do you feel like that is a long engagement and want him commit? or did you just think it was a good way to let us know how serious you guys are? I think that if you love someone you should be able to be completely vulnerable and still be completely comfortable. As far as the respect factor, you can never lose respect for someone that you love.

In my opinion I would not ever expect my girl to do that, but hey thats just me, I dont know whether I would loose respect for her, but there is no reason for him to change his mind so quickly, I mean why one day is he saying it is over the next he is thankful to have you. You need to stop and think about whether or not you want to deal with that for the rest of your life as I am sure that he is going to pull this sort of thing again. You seem very nice and deserve someone that respects you and would not expect such things. Good luck

I think this depends on why you two were fighting. If it was your fault, you did something awful, and were begging for forgiveness, and he loved you enough to forgive you. then I think you don't loose self respect. But if he is just an awful person and he treats you bad on a daily basis, and you kiss his feet... then everyone will loose respect for you.

Sorry but you are. If you dont want to loose him let him go. The saying goes "If you love something set it free. If it returns it is yours . If it doesn't it never was." It is true.

If he really loves you he wouldn't have lost respect for you. If he isn't your true love, then yes, that was a bad move.

He will take you for granted again if he already did it once before.
