Okay, my problem is...I have looked at every different major that I possibly can and I DONT LIKE ANY OF THEM! Right now, I am a Criminal Justice major at a community college (future transfer student) but I cant stay in that field and get a job because of some legal trouble I ran into...I was never really interested in that anyway. I feel like I am or going to have to just pick a major out of a hat and go with it. I dont like Math, I only like US History, English is okay to an extent, and Science, well its cool until you get to the math part. I know I am being way too picky but if I just pick something, I am going to set myself up for failure because if my heart isnt in it, I wont do good. So what do I do? I have to transfer to a four year college in August with something and I have nothing. My counselors dont know what to do with me and I dont either... Somebody Help Please! THIS MIGHT BE MY LAST HOPE!

Go for some career testing to help narrow you down to 2 or 3 career fields that interest you. Find out what jobs are available in these fields first before saying no to a particular one. Even though a field sounds boring just by its name or general description, you might actually find a job or career that meets your likes and goals.

I really don't think any of these anwers are correct.

You do NOT have to transfer in August. You should NOT be transferring to a four year college. That makes no sense. Right now the community college is cheap, but four year college is going to be very expensive and you will have to take loans and/or work, which will make your school work even harder.

You should be taking a year off to work.

If you take some time off, for one thing you will be able to save up some money and pay off your bills and get your life straightened out. Then you will be able to try some different jobs to see what might appeal toyou. Then when you got back to school after a year, you will have a better feel for what kind of subject you want to study.

If you notice looking around on Yahoo there are lots of people who are older and are going back to school. As long as you don't have a kid, it is easy, and even if you have a kid, it is still possible. THousands of people have done it. So you can take some time off, make a good decision and when you go back to school you will get great marks and feel good about yourself.

Good luck.

I had no direction/mentoring when I went to college either. No one in my family even went (until me). After 3 semesters, I forgot to attend for a year - I needed time to find me and see a little bit of the world. I even went homeless for awhile (street smarts are important too). I returned to college and earned a 4 year degree in psychology and a 2 year degree in criminal justice. I earned these degrees because I enjoyed studying in both fields. I was a high achiever and though, socially capable at work, I was very socially shy at school. I never established the references/contacts I needed too at the university. This worked against me as nobody was there to help me get my foot in the door somewhere or to speak of my intelligence/ability.

Without references/contacts and the whole background check issue (also), I could not get a job with the cj degree or in the psych field. Eventually I ended up with a semiconductor company and have taken many more classes to work my way up in positions there.

Anyway, give yourself time to find what you want. It would be so cool if you had a passion for something and found a way to pursue it. My family rides snowmobiles and my brother has always worked on them (he's a mechanic) - he dreamed of having his own repair shop - this was his passion - he worked for years under someone else to gain knowledge and build a reputation - now he runs his own succesful business that he enjoys. - The other brother always had a passion for reptiles/amphibians - he now has his own trading/pet store business. It is awesome if you can find a passion.

I have not really found one. I am intelligent and quick to learn almost anything I am subjected too so luckily I have managed to conquer some eng. classes and get a decent job, but I should have gotten over my anxiety/shyness and made my relationships needed in college so that I could be doing what I enjoy - working in the field of psychology.

By the way, I did get a starter job in psych eventually but it only paid half what the starting pay was for my electronics job :(. So anyway one last point, ever since I graduated college (still the only family member to ever accomplish such a feat) my grandfather has never given up harassing me about not getting a business degree. I can't believe it. Nobody told me what to do, how to get through college, what degree to get, etc. And now suddenly that I am graduated, Grand-pa lays down the expectation that I was supposed to go to Harvard and get my business degree. I wish he would have provided this direction back in high school - I had no real mentors or people to look up to - why do you think I'm so lost today?

So, um, yes, when G-pa wins the lottery, I will be applying for Harvard so that I can get my Master's Degree in Business....

what is it that you like in life?? Don't let the fear of difficulty be an obstacle. Some people say "oh I'd really like to do _______" but don't do it because they think it'll be hard to get into or tough to take the classes or whatever. Don't let that stop you. No matter what you like there are jobs for it. They might include some of the stuff you don't like, but the don't likes are used to get to the part you like.
Just a thought, you can always get a Women's Studies degree. I almost ended up with on just by chance because some of the classes I was taking to fill other requirements fit it as well.

Take the courses you MUST take, no matter what you do. Chemistry 101, Eng Lit and Comnp, freshman Math, etx etc.
Yiou say you likehistory. Is this the answer??

You do not mention business. Try accounting 101.

Remember this about college...if you graduate w/ a four degree you
1. Started somethinbg you finished
2. set yourself out from the crowd
3. Completed assignments when due, and well done
4. They know you had rough times * we al do) but you didn't quit. They love that!!!

So, even if you aren't thrilled about most majors, at least find something that won't bore you to death.

Good luck.

I started in English, loved it. 2 years later couldn't stand it, and wish to hell I would have taken accounting. but i don't consider English as a waste.
