Im 40w 1d. This is my first, obviously. I haven't had any braxton hicks at all, and I think I might be feeling contractions now, but I am unsure if it is. Can someone please be detailed and explain the feeling of contractions. please. Thanks so much!

In my situation, they felt like pain of menstrual cramps along with a feeling of tightness. Your stomach gets as hard as a rock.

Sometimes you get cramps and even a bit of an upset stomach. I didn't have too much pain at first. Your big round belly will suddenly grow very, very tight and feel really hard. Then it eases off for a few minutes, then it will tighten back up again. It just gets more and more intense as the hours pass by. If they are mild contractions, then it may be braxton hicks. Start timing them. Braxton hicks contractions will go away after a little while, and the real contractions of labor will not - - - - they will get more intense.

You can see a contraction before you feel it. If you lie down on your back and look at your round belly, if you are having a contraction you will notice that your belly starts to change shape from round to more of a peak on top. When this happens if you feel it you will notice that it is harder than before. If you contract the muscles in your arm you can feel a contraction of that muscle and that is the same as a uterine contraction only your uterus is even stronger than the strongest man's bicep. So really a contraction feels like a very strong tightening. Some people have pain from the first but some have no pain at all. I have experienced one almost painless birth but the other four births were painful but bearable. It's all a natural function and you have your baby after it's over. Best wishes

I never thought they felt like cramps. A contraction is the tightening of the muscles surrounding your abdomen.... so all those muscles from your spine around to the front... they all contract. It tightens, squeezing gently at first.. then harder, pushing the baby downward into the birth canal... It's not just muscles in front... your abdominal muscles "wrap" the abdomen... so they go all the way around to your spine... I had Braxton-Hicks contractions all through pregnancy, and I was able to tell when I started labor... it started with shooting twinges, moving from the spine around toward the front... I had those for a few hours... then the contractions started in earnest.

now and back you get cramps or perhaps a splash an disillusioned abdomen. i did no longer have too plenty discomfort at first. Your vast around abdomen will without notice advance very, very tight and experience rather stressful. Then it eases off for a couple of minutes, then it fairly is going to tighten back up back. It basically gets further and extra intense because of the fact the hours bypass by skill of. in the event that they are gentle contractions, then it rather is braxton hicks. commence timing them. Braxton hicks contractions will bypass away after a rapid time, and the real contractions of exertions won't - - - - they gets greater intense.

I explain it to people who ask that its like bad period pains - but it all depends if you've ever experienced that as to wether you will know what I mean.

Everyone would explain it differently depending on how their labour was, and their pain thresh hold - some people experience the contractions in the front, some in the back, some just in their legs and some unlucky people get all of the above.

Try not to think about it too much...if your unsure, call the hospital and they will know if its time to come in or not - stay at home as long as you can stand to coz you may have hours ahead and being at home is much mnore comfortable than the hospital.

Good Luck :o)

They feel like really bad menstrual cramps, also feel your belly when you think you may be having one....if it gets hard then softens when the pain goes away they are contractions. I would call your doctor since you are so far along. She will tell you to go to the hospital and they will know for sure....you dont want to end up having the baby at home do you?

A contraction is the muscles of your uterus "tightening" to help push the baby down into and thru the birth canal. That is the best way I can describe a contraction-a tightening of the muscles of the uterus. I hoope this helps you. They last about a minute each time. Don't hesitate to call the dr. Take care.
