This songs interpretation be for an athlete who out of breath (so would be about himself not you I think)
The phrase containing the word gold mine = We were a goldmine and they gutted us. (means someone has got rid of the speaker not the person spoken to or about, someone feeling slighted )
slighted means: To treat as of small importance; make light of.
Don't worry this probably has nothing to do with you that's a a popular song.
A slow bittersweet tune and I honestly think this means no harm songs so slow I think means NOTHING bad at all in regard to you.
Have you ever heard the song 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' I swear this song begins sounding similar to that
Sorta of emotional sweet song being so neutral in meaning
But if in the future you hear lyrics sounding hateful you don't trust your gut around him and think he wants to dump you stand up for yourself and blow a whistle !

Well, it's open to interpretation like all poetry or music, but...
Since the song is about loss and failure, I would say that the title is talking about something that was once very valuable but has been used up (in an almost violent way.) What do you do when a gold mine is gutted, or cleaned out? You abondon it and move on to another mine.
