If your lucky the TV show will put a little icon at the bottom of the screen to tell you which song is being played, but that mostly only happens on ads.
Otherwise I go to wikipedia [see link below] and type in the tv show hoping they will have a list of the songs.
And if that doesn't work, I suggest you go to the official site of the show or the official site of the tv channel/network and look there.
And if all else fails see if anyone on Y!A was watching the show and knows what the song is.

if you go to www.tv.com you should be able to find out. This website has pages for most tv shows ever created. Just search for the TV show you want and there should be individual ep recaps for that show. On that page it should list most of the music that was played during that ep ;)
