First of all, almost all Jews agree with the basic principles of modern Zionism. That Jews should have a normalized nationhood, and that that nation should be in Israel. Only a very few disagree on religious grounds, and their interpretation is not widely accepted at all. And then there is the singular person of Noam Chomsky...

It is most definitely part of the religion. Our scriptures tell that G-d made a covenant between himself, the Jewish people, and a small piece of land between the Jordan and the Mediterranean. It is inclusion in this covenant that defines Jewishness.

Edit - I am just baffled that the number of people who have no idea about Judaism who feel that they can answer to what Jews believe or is part of the religion.

No, Zionism doesn't = Judaism. And it's not a part of religion. Zionism is a racist political movement. Zionists used Judaism as a motive to convince Jews around the world to immigrate to the land of Israel. And I think that Zionists spread the idea of " the Jewish nationalism" among the Jews around the world. It means that Jews shouldn't be part of their societies, they should have their own nationalist identity "Jewish identity" in one land. And there are many Jews who oppose Zionism.

Nope, Zionist means "adheres (at least loosely) to the principles of Judenstaat (A book published about Jewish safety in the late 1800's)" or "those Jews of a desire to create an independent Jewish state".

So, no. If you are Jewish and don't especially want there to be a Jewish country (like a safe haven), then you would not be a zionist.
