How can i use the multimedia projector without making my laptop's screen go off?

because when i am using multimedia projector in my laptop, the screen shots off. How can i change the setting? please help me.

Usually the multimedia projectot's manufacturer provides a cable that supports both monitor and projector at an extra cost. It may also be available as a third party solution, check out for your model of projector.
