About the chaos theory, I doubt (it is fairly new theory). but the ancient greeks had a deity named chaos. and....
Chaos (mythology)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"In Greek mythology, Chaos or Khaos is the primeval state of existence from which the first gods appeared. In other words, the dark void of space. In Greek it is Χάος, which is usually pronounced similarly to "house" (Koiné) or "cows" (Attic), but correctly in ancient Greek as ['kha.ɔs]; it means "gaping void", from the verb χαίνω "
As well, "In Hesiod, Chaos ("void", "gap") stands at the beginning, followed by Gaia, Tartarus, Eros, Erebus, Pontus, Ourea, Chronos, Nyx, and then Aether, respectively."
with the same analogy, Due to the force of gravity everybody who was falling from hight, was killed or hurt him/herself, despite the law of gravity was denounced on 17th century by Newton.

Chaos theory really only came into intense study with the development of computers. It deals with values from repeated iterations (repeated calculations where the answer becomes the input for the next calculation.) That was when mathematicians discovered some amazing patterns that led to the study of chaos.
