Over a period of about 6-7 yrs I tried perhaps, like you a dozen times... I had 1x9 mths, 2x7mths, Ix6mths 2x4mths quit a few at 3 and 4 mths, then the little ones like 1 mth and couple of weeks.. I always tried to find a date that felt good for me but somehow made some excuse to myself to take the habit up again...I smoked a lot, I used to wake up several times during the night and wander out to my lounge room and roll a smoke , cough my lungs out smoking it then go back to bed until I awoke again.. Don't ever smoke in your bedroom , as you can drop off to sleep and burn to death. Also it's nice to have one room in the house smoke free..I finally and hopefully have done it, I have now been quit for 20mths,closing in on that 2 years.. I smoked for about 38 years and really choofed them down... If I can do it, anyone can... Keep trying, if you seriously want to quit, you will.. Every-time you give them up, and start again the next time becomes a little bit easier.. Good Luck with this very difficult task, I'm sure you have the power within you to say enough of these "Gasper's".. Also you will smell natural again and taste food like it tasted when you were a kid and regain your sense of smell... Once again Good Luck...

Robin - Try again. I started smoking at age 13. Smoked for a total of 23 years. At the height of my smoking, I was doing 2 packs a day. I stopped because I couldn't stand the way I smelled. It wasn't easy as I did have several failures in there, but I'm happy to say that I have not smoked a cigarette in over 13 years now, and don't miss it either. Your health is at stake as are your looks. It's a nasty, smelly and costly habit that you can do without. There are many different programs that might be able to help you with your battle to this addiction. If I can do it, you can do it. I'm going to be cheering for you. Good luck.

i hadn't really kept count.....its been probably 4 or 5 serious attempts including this current attempt. I technically haven't smoked for almost 2 years but I have had a few setbacks here and there in those 2 years...most recent set back was when I lost my job....I don't handle stress well without cigarettes....but I jumped back on the wagon again. I'm still trying....I don't like smoking that much and I don't look right doing it.
I don't look like a smoker

Once, then I quit 19 years ago! Still smoke-free other than when I am around my brother and get to enjoy free 2nd hand smoke, yippee all the risks without having to pay for them.

Keep trying! Don't give up and don't try to do it alone. There are support groups and smoking cessation aides aplenty to help you. The reward is your health, you can't afford to fail. Research shows that people are more successful when they have some kind of help. You can do it!

Twice, for me the third time was lucky. Nearly 10 years since I quit. Keep trying. You need to quit. And you will if you keep trying.
