After taking a course in college about the vampire myth and why we as a people feel compelled to scare ourselves with horror stories and tales of the supernatural, the professor and I started discussing reading habits and why people like to read different genres. One of the things he told me was that when a person reads so much that the plots of the different stories begin to run together, perhaps that individual should try writing a story for themselves.
Think about the books that you have read, and then think about how many times you said, "That was cool, but what happens next?" or perhaps "Yeah, but it would have been better if the........." or even, "What were the characters like before this adventure or story, what brought them to this point?"
Do that and as you do, write down your thoughts and those tangents that your mind flies off on. There is your list of story ideas.

Most writers practice by writing about anything and they practice each day. For example, they write journals about their lives. They write character studies about people they know. Write a story about a thing that happened to you in life and how it made you feel. One of the most important things that they say is that you have to write a lot to be able to write better and better. It needs to be your habit.

It's writer's block, no need to use other ideas, that'll stifle your creativity, just force yourself around the block, maybe read a few books and you should be able to start thinking up ideas.

Have you ever thought of writing children's stories? You could start there. Their stories are simpler, and it is easy to use your imagination. You can do it!
