Got to pay for this illegal war some way. So the way to do it is cut the benefits for those that are no longer useful for the war.
Edit: You do not expect Bush to pay for it out of the profits that he and his cronies are making from this war do you?

Veterans have VGLI and Tricare when they retire, on top of money they earn while they work civilian jobs.
What on earth are you talking about when you say their benefits get cut???
Republicans raised benefits right after Bush took office. I worked for a government insurance company at the time, and I am 100% certain of this.

Good, thought provoking question....
Republicans, as a general rule, don't like any kind of social assistance programs....they label them as socialist or communist. Take a look at the healthcare proposals...they are met with strong criticism from the right. So then, how could they possibly offer ongoing financial assistance to the military men and women without appearing hypocritical?

My retirement benefits will be great. If I had to complain about one thing, it will be the healthcare rates. I'm worried about how much that is going to cost when I retire.
My retirement is good, my TSP is GREAT, and I will have healthcare for life.
I think you're confusing the VA benefits with retirement. They are seperate issues, I think.

The troops after WW2 were treated far better than the boys coming home now. It is a damned shame! We spend billions on Iraq and we don't care for our own boys. Politicians (Republicans and Democrats) are evil people who speak with forked tongues....snakes.

Very very very good question... because it's not just after they retire, it is also as soon as they get back home and are no longer on active duty.
It's like Repubilcans resent ANY FORM whatsoever of ANY entitlement program even when that entitlement was earned. IE, military benefits, social security, etc...

To the disinformed non-believers--here's your link: http://www.cbo.gov/
Here's a link from 2005--take into account the new Vet's we'll have very soon and be disgusted.

Take into account the debacle at Walter Reed and the cycle of reward for failure continues. Does "Heckuva job Brownie" ring any bells? Thank god for Casey and his recognition of the problem!!

This is a Veteran's Administration question, and not properly a question of politics. Clinton didn't raise their benefits and pay, did he? We need to take better care of our Vets, but I am really tired of seeing this politicized against Bush. Its a cheap liberal tactic.

Exactly where do you get "informed" about this?
The retirement pay is a percentage of your active duty pay, depending on how long you were in.
When you retire from a civilian job, do you still get your full pay? If you do I want to know where you work.
