They would probably find it more interesting and be able to relate to some of the concepts a lot more than we were able to back in the actual 80s...
I think with INCREDIBLE speed of technological advancements, ppl today are of the mindset that anything is possible now.

Absolutely, yes they would. I studied it back in 1984 (I was in Form 5 at the time), and found it to be very thought provoking. From memory, George Orwell wrote it in 1948, and he made the title 1984 by switching the last two digits in 1948 to 84. It was his vision of how 1984 could look like. With all the information systems available today with all our collective information stored on it, I think it is more applicable now than it was in 1984, and will be more so as we proceed into the future. I think kids of today just accept the cameras, etc of today, because they were brought up with it, and know no different. The older folk are a little more wary, because they once lived in a time where there were no cameras, databases, mobile phones, etc. All these technological advances have improved our lives, but the book 1984 gives the reader a view of what life could be like if these techonlogical advances are (heaven forbid) abused in the extreme.

I read 1984 for the first time last year, and I nearly sh*t my pants because it honestly didn't sound too far-fetched. I was born in 86, too, so it hit close to home. I think the book is definitely still important for kids to read and consider.
BTW people blame Bush for bad laws because he's only vetoed like one bill or something in his entire term to date, basically giving Congress unchecked power because they were all from the same party.

I examine 1984 in 1981 and protection and issues have been getting greater technical and greater of a certainty for us like it rather is interior the e book. It replaced into variety of frightening analyzing it so on the brink of 1984. i think of that it rather is one in each and every of those great novel and it has basically what instructors could desire to instruct the basics of English; and that's what's important.

They should, they are living it. It would be like a current affairs book for them
I would like to know why everyone blames Bush for bad laws. If you will read the Constitution of The United States of America, you will find first: only the House of Representatives can originate spending bills, and second: only congress, that means both houses, can enact laws, NOT the president

Kids today should read Manna by Brain. Although Orwell was off by 20 years, kids could get an insight into how he accurately, insightfully, thoroughly, and eerily predicted the effect of human nature on technology and vice versa 59 years ago.

Both of my boys had to read it in school and both were sort of stunned that 1984 had crept up on them already. One is 17 and a junior in high school and the other is 21 and a junior in college, just to give a relative age reference. A lot of discussion came out of that book assignment.

To frag: You mean....give up some of your liberties (privacy) for freedom? They mean the same thing.
I think it would be very beneficial for everyone to read 1984 because if they do, they will see many similarities to whats going on right now.
The patriot act? Come on people.....the war on terror is a scare tactic that instills fear. Wait, in 1984, there was an "invisible" war as well...and everyone was controlled by fear.....just like now.

Kids must only read appropriate books even when it is a 1984 version. Cameras are eveywhere now for security reasons.
