All right, just consider everyone else that tried to answer your question before me a moron about automobiles because they are,, I'm sure they have great intelligent talents elsewhere, but auto's aren't one of 'em. Overdrive is the top gear in your automatic trans usually 4th of 5th depending on if you have a 4 or 5 speed automatic. It is referred to as overdrive because while in this gear, the output shaft of the transmission is actually turning at a greater rate then the input shaft from the engine, thus "overdriving the output of the trans", it is the Least powerful gear, and is used to calm engine revs at high speeds- 50-75 mph for cruising at with gas consumption. O/D off locks this top gear out, making the next gear down the top gear, which offers more power due to the engine turning faster at a like speed, allowing for better towing or hill climbing at the expense of gas millage and wear and tear. I use the OD Lockout for going up long grades where I want power and speed (faster/slower) control by gas pedal. answer? yes.

Over Drive!!! Depending on how many gears you have you may have a really gas reliable car, and that it may actually take you less gears to get up to certain speeds... Like if your in 4 and it says overdrive then your saving gas when you think about it your running smoother and using less gas to run the engine...

Hi,
It stands for Over Drive. It's an additional gear in your cars transmission that should only be used during freeway or higher speed driving conditions. It will switch to a lower gear thus allowing your vehicle to conserve in fuel consumption.

o\d means overdrive. if you turn on the light then your transmission will not lock up the torque converter in the overdrive position. This is usually done when you are towing a trailor. Overdrive is like another gear in your transmission.

O/D OFF is the Overdrive Off gentle indicator it comes on once you commonly press the overdrive button imparting you with hads as much as stay in existence like speeds. commonly maximum autos have a button you are able to press to work together and disengage it, i might definnatly go searching for the button according to danger it somewhat is a button you do not use alot. i might propose staying off highways, innerstates and doing something over 50 in case you are able to avert it till you are able to verify the O/D situation. making use of at severe speeds with out your overdrive and heavily positioned a hurting on your engine, you should probable blow it.

for the advice you need, leave OD on. overdrive helps with gas mileage and there is probably no need to not have it on. OD was designed for fuel efficiency, so just leave it on and let it do it's job.
