Hi:

I also think you can get stencil blanks that are translucent plastic and meltable, and get a stencil burning tool, or a multipurpose craft tool that can do woodburning and soldering too. You can draw or trace your pattern on the plastic, and use the heat tool to melt out the sections. This would probably be much easier than trying to cut out parts with something like an Xacto blade or small craft blade.

Also, you may also be interested in a nice little easy silkscreening product called PhotoEZ. This comes in small sheets, unlike normal silkscreens, that are usually silk stretched in frames, and you can make permanent little silkscreens. These are really neat, and I highly encourage you to at least take a look at them.

Hope this helps, and gives you some ideas.

I've used an exacto knife and manilla folders- it's fairly easy. Another way is to get sticker paper and use an exacto knife on that-

The key is the material- are you looking to make a "one-use" stencil or one that you will use over and over again?

if you go to Walmart, you can buy those thin plastic sheet cutting boards, those work great to make stencils. just draw on what you want and then use an x acto knife to cut it out :)
