Most likely, although probably unintentionally. In that movie they used a number of names from the old lore without necessarly linking them to any specific character with that name from those legends. According the legend, Tristan was the nephew of Duke Marcus of Cornwal, the man appointed regent since Cornwall was actually the property of Arthur (or more rightly his sister Morgain la Fey) as they had it from their mother Igraine, wife of Gorlois. In the legends Marcus was an old man when he was wed ot Isolde (also referred to as Isotta in some sources). She, however, had an eye for Tristan and their affair was legendary.

Tristan was indeed a character knight of the round table, primarily in the stories written by James J. Wilhelm in the middle ages. He is disputed among literary historians to be the greatest knight and more preferred by King Arthur than Lancelot. The tales of Tristan and Istolde are very interesting, and I would recommend you read some of James J. Wilhelm's work if you are interested.
