Depending on the job I think, if it's real strenous work, I think an employer might look at them as not being capable of handing the job. I am not obese, but aged and have more weight then when I was younger, and hope like heck it doesn't prevent me from obtaining a new job, but the thought has crossed my mind. Because I don't look like I did 20 years ago, but I have more experience behind me, so hopefully that will out weigh the weight I have gained over the years.
The deli person, you need to just tell your employee's they can't eat the food it is for paying customers! Apparently you are not very good at managing your company, if you think it is their fault your inventory is depleting. Your suppose to be the boss right!

Absolutely!!! Most employers want to project the best image possible of their business to the public, so they hire skinny if possible. Also many people do believe that fat people are lazy. Of course those same people usually believe the same thing about mexicans, blacks, irish, catholics, or whatever. If you don't believe it just ask them. About half will admit it, the other half get mad. If you are overweight you have to work twice as hard as anybody else to prove you are competent. I am not trying to start an argument here, but facts is facts. This answer will probably get deleted anyway. I hope it helps someone before it goes.

No employer ever admits to it (lawsuits and such), but I'd say YES, they rarely hire overweight people and if they do, they give the person lesser pay. Overweight women seem to get hired much less than overweight men. At my previous job, I didn't work with even ONE overweight woman, but my boss was frickin' HUGE and I don't mean just a little overweight, he was morbidly obese.

I'm probably going to upset some people here...but anyway...

I used to manage delis and I wouldn't hire overweight people because
1) The staff we already had who were overweight were eating the stock, and

2) MOST overweight people are lazy, which is why they are overeight. I would not hire lazy people.

3) Alot of overweight people lack self-respect, and that's a negative side when you are trying to run a successful business

I am not looking down at overweight people but employers normally will take those overweight as their last choice.

it must be because of some of the overweight people are not able to move fast compared to those who are slim.

there are ofcourse some human beings, no longer employers, yet human beings, as a results of fact human beings do the hiring judgements, no longer agencies, that may not hire a pregnant applicant, interviewee. no longer honest, yet it fairly is existence. The pregnant interviewee isn't taught why she replaced into no longer employed, the two. this way of subject happens each and all of the time, someplace.

Research shows it's extremely difficult for overweight women to get jobs and they get paid SIGNIFICANTLY less. No effect for overweight men.

Definitely NO it isnt harder to find work.
All that matters is your confidence and attitude towards yourself and how you market yourself.
I would not lose a good candidate for his/her weight.
