I suppose I could live without it, but that would make everything I said or wrote both longer and more specific.
For example:
"I can't find the remote control. I put the remote control on the table last night, and now the remote control is gone! Did you put the remote control somewhere else?"
in stead of,
"I can't find the remote control. I put it on the table last night, and now it's gone! Did you put it somewhere else?"
