it will take time and effort on your part, you broke a scared trust, and for some people it is hard to forgive something like that, in the mean time keep showing him you have changed, and make sure you never abuse that trust when you gain it back

There is a dichotomy in the question itself. You say he is your best friend. It is your belief or you believe that you are his best friend. This belief itself becomes an absolute fact. In other-words, the hypothesis that you are his best friend is unmistakable. If it is so , there is no need to prove it as far as you are concerned. The other man, to whom you believe you are his best friend, will automatically come to realize it . Time is the best healer. The best in you comes out before him and it is very difficult for anybody with a human touch to ignore it.

What makes you feel the way you have raised this question is the guilt sense. Honesty or I would say sincerity in you will clear all matters beyond doubt and your friend will come to realize that you love him most. Forget and forgive will come to play and you will continue to be his best friend again. The temporary shuffle will prove to be a bubble that can not last long.
Be cheerful in the meanwhile.

Because some people move on... they would see the mistake and never take you back because of it. That's how he just knows you as a lier, sorry to say. If you changed you should show it to your bestfriend more than anything. It will sink in one day. The walls of someones heart always falters... good or bad.

I'm sorry, but it's true..."Once bitten, twice shy." It is possible you have lost your best friend. All actions do have their consequences. Just live life honestly from now on and be a better person. Apologize for your lies, and don't do it again, for your own soul's health.

It's that it affects him more than it affects your more casual friends. Maybe you have hurt him more.
If you haven't talked for some time, think about what you want to say. Describe what made you want to change, and tell him how you went about changing yourself. Be truthful. If you have hurt him, think about how you can make amends and regain his trust. Don't insist that he has to trust you instantly, but give him time to draw his own conclusions.

I am sorry Jess, but you blow it. He is not ever going to trust you. And he has good reason according to your own admission. Leave him alone and move on to the next person...and maybe next time you will not lie.

Trust is a tricky thing...once it's lost, it's very hard to get back. Try apologizing to him and ask him what you have to do to gain his trust back.

He needs time. Give it to him. Don't sound needy, it will just push him away.
