do you need 2 cat converters? or do you come off the engine with one line, into a single cat converter and then the muffler ...then into 2 exhaust pipes? thank you.

A totally separate dual exhaust system will cost you some serious $$$, and will result in less than impressive performance increases.
For MY money, I would stick with a dual system through one cat/con, using free flowing turbo-type mufflers.

The V6's have a unique sound, and can NEVER be made to sound like a V8.

The v6 firebirds have 1 catalytic converter that goes back to the muffler in the rear. V8 equipped f bodies have a 1 in, 2 out muffler that gives it a dual exhaust look. Due to the ground clearance, I would go the route of the 1 pipe in, 2 pipes out muffler if you want the dual exhaust look route. Any muffler shop should be able to get this done for you, but you may need to buy new tips so they match.

your second option is correct - if you are out for pure power ditch the converter and run dual straight off the headers - skip all mufflers and you should get some heavy deep raw without any back pressure.
