In a word: No.

The female kangaroo's pouch acts like an external womb. When the young kangaroo (a "joey") is born as a 8mm long foetus, it treks up from the vaginal opening to the teat, which is within the pouch. Once it arrives, it suckles upon the teat for up to a year until it is big enough to survive as an independant animal. It still visits the mother's pouch for another year or so until it's fully weaned.

A couple of remarkable things about the Kangaroo:
1. They can, in times of drought, actually stop the progression of a pregnancy until "good" times return. This can be for up to three years;
2. A female can have 3 "babies" on the go at any one time: a foetus in the womb, a youngster suckling within the safety of the pouch as well as a joey (last year's youngster) at heel. Of course this only happens in the really good times!

There are many many species of "macropod" in Australia - not just the Eastern Grey which has become the icon of my country. The name "macropod" comes from the Latin for "Giant Foot" (Macro = giant; "pod" = foot) due to the length of their back "feet" which are really the bottom section of their legs!

There's a remarkable documentary from a few years ago that would be worth watching - it's called "Faces in the Mob". That'll give you a really full understanding of the Kangaroo!

By the way - the name "boomer" is only attributed to the males of the Red Kangaroo species. It's not a generic name for all males of Macropods.

Do Male Kangaroos Have Pouches

NBo, only female wallabies and Kangaroos have pouches , including other female marsupials. Also it is very important that if you find a marsupial that has died to check if a joey ( a baby) is in the pouch. If you do find a joey it is extremely important that you do not pulll it away from the mother's teat( even if the mother is alive) the Joey has a suction around it's mother's teat and pulling it away by force actually ruptures the joey's throat. So it is important that you call an animal wildlife expert right away if you ca not transport the dead mother and joey in a vehicle. Hope this helps you, God Bless!

No. Only the females have pouches.
As well as somewhere for the joey to sleep, the nipples are in the pouch.
