When a fair die is thrown, there is an equal probability of any number from 1 to 6 appearing.
So the probability that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 appears is 1/6 each.

Since 1,3 and 5 are odd numbers,
Probability that an odd number is obtained = 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6
= 1/2

And 4,5 and 6 are numbers greater than 3.
Probability that a number greater than 3 appears
= 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6
= 1/2

But since in both cases 5 appears, so
probability that either an odd numbr or a numbr greater than 3 appears
= probability that 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 appears
= 1/6 +1/6 + 1/6 +1/6 +1/6
= 5/6

The probability of each is 1/2 or 50%.

The chance of any side coming up on a fair die is 1/6. There are three odd faces on a die (1, 3, and 5), so the chance that one of these will turn up is 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 or 3/6 or 1/2.

Similarly, there are three faces of value <= 3 and three of value > 3. So the chance of a number greater than 3 coming up is 3/6 or 1/2.

Now, if the question is "What is the chance that either a number greater than 3 OR an odd number coming up?" then the possible faces are 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 5/6. Only 2 is both not odd and less than 3.

5/6 because 2 is the only number on a die that is not either odd or greater than 3.

probability of getting odd number is 3/6
probability of getting a no. greater than 3 is 3/6
probability of getting odd number or a no. greater than 3 is 3/6 +3/6 = 1

the probability of a odd number would be three out of six
the probability of a number greater than three would be the same thing
