My life has changed since I visited a local animal refuge. I volunteered my time to rehabilitate wild animals and I loved it. I hope to work with animals as a career....I might want to be a vet tech...but I don't want to work with only dogs and cats...I want to work with exotic and local wildife creatures....

I personally think its great! I work at an ER hospital, and we see the normal dogs and cats, but we also see birds, reptiles, small mammals, amphibians and other exotics. The exotics are my favorite part of the job, but they are the hardest part sometimes as they dont usually do well once they are ill (remember most arent suited for captivity) and more often than not the people who own them (no offense, I mean no disrespect) typically do not have the money to treat them if they become injured or ill, because most require such intensive, expensive treatments. I have also volunteered with several of our local wildlife rehabbers in the area, and while its very rewarding work (the wildlife part) you dont make any money doing that.

Sometimes you have do something to get somewhere else, and I doubt that you will easily find something with exotic and local wildlife creatures that will train you like being a vet tech. I love animals but disliked being a vet tech because of dealing with mean, ferocious animals, and giving medicine ( i was always afraid that I might mess up the meds). I really disliked cleaning up cat poo (the worst) and dealing with animal puke. I got good experience which really really really helped the rest of my work experiences, but I decided that i didn't want to be a vet after that... You will learn about animal handeling techniques and animal physiology. You should definatly do it if you are serious about working with animals. You will likely find exotic animals coming in on random occasions....

a veterinary technician has an affiliate's degree or certificate in some states, and is merely employed off the line and experienced on the pastime in different states. they help the vet (like hand him issues contained in the operating room or carry a canine for its images). they often times do lots, like function as anesthesiologists. A veterinarian, on the different hand, has as a lot education as a doctor, merely in Veterinary drugs. So a Vet Tech is not in any respect a similar element.

I LOVE IT!!!!! YOU MAY HAVE TO START AT A SMALL ANIMAL CLINIC AND EVENTUALLY WORK YOUR WAY TO AN EXOTIC VET CLINIC. BUT THE PROS ARE GREAT. ONE OF YOU EARLIER ANSWERS SAID HE DIDN'T LIKE GIVING MEAN ANIMALS MEDS. WELL YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER THAT THESE ANIMALS ARE SCARED TO DEATH AND YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING TO HELP THEM. WE SEE A LOT OF "MEAN ANIMALS" BUT HELPING THESE ANIMALS IS A WONDERFUL FEELING. THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE ABOUT IT IS HAVING TO EUTHANISE, EVEN THOUGH ITS THE BEST THING FOR THE ANIMALS IT IS STILL A VERY SAD TIME IN THE PET OWNERS LIFE. SOMETIMES I CRY AS MUCH AS THE OWNERS. BUT I STILL LOVE MY JOB!! GOOD LUCK
