I like Cattell's theory of intelligence, that it is both what you know and your potential for learning. He believed that there were two types of intelligence, crystallized and fluid. Fluid Intelligence is the power of reasoning and using information. Crystallized intelligence consists of acquired skills and knowledge and the application of that knowledge to a specific context in a person's experience. Fluid intelligence reaches a high peak whereas crystallized intelligence is always increasing in an individuals life.

For me, intelligence is the ability to apply reason to data so as to solve problems. As for the authors you cite, I've not heard of any of them, but psychology is not my strong field. The ability to remember data is important to problem solving, as an issue might be settled by a datum that one learned years ago. It is clear that there are several different aspects to intelligence -- mathematical ability, visual-spatial, linguistic skills, and logic skills are all facets. There is a nice IQ test available at tickle.com; it's free, and you can get a detailed analysis of your results either by paying a fee or looking at a bunch of ads. Or, you can try out for Mensa.
