its a 69.99$ linksys cable modem and my question is when i call my internet proveder do i have to pay a monthly fee for the internet. and someone give me a summary of what i need to know. thanks

Well, first off, yes there is a fee. Usually $45 - $55 a month depending on the provider.

As for hooking it up, you would simply connect the cable to a coaxial cable in the house, and either hookup using the USB or LAN connection. Also it might help if you plugged in the power supply.

Now install the drivers (if needed) and attempt to go on the internet. If successful, the service provider will redirect you to a website explaining who you should call to establish service. Usually a 15 minute phone call will all you will need. However, if you do not get a webpage, you will need to call the ISP in your area (Comcast, Roadrunner, ect) and have a technician come to the house and hook you up.

You should've first checked with the ISP to see if they provide DSL/Cable internet in your area--if so---you can get a deal from them which gives you the modem for free. You don't have to buy it.

Yes you have too pay a monthly internet fee. Should have called them first to make sure you can get broadband at your location.

yes you have to pay for the internet. Cable is normally fairly expensive. Not bad though.
