Iv'e always wanted to move to Hawaii and study history but Im kinda concerned about the whole hositility issue towards white guys there. What is the best way to avoid this, are there certain areas that are worse than others, like does it change island to island?

I'm confused as to why you have this question in the gay category.

I live in Hawaii. I grew up here and never had any problems. It seems to be streamed towards tourists.

There is plenty aloha here, if you are looking for trouble you'll find it however, you act respectable, you get aloha.
Waimanalo is dominantly Hawaiian/Samoan. Some people there have issues with white/tourist type people. But most people will welcome you.
If ,by chance you are gay, there is a place downtown Waikiki called Hula's. There are many friendly people there.

Although I cannot imagine anyone being like this, I have met more than a few people who have had problems.

I think if you are going to school that would be a better situation.

Stay away from Waianae on Oahu. I've heard people get hurt for no reason. It's sad, but true. It's so strange because overall people from Hawaii are the most generous and laid back people you will ever meet.

I'm native Hawaiian and I don't hate anyone for those kind of reasons, nor do I know anyone personally that thinks like that.

Why do you think this is an issue??? I've been to hawaii many times and have NEVER encountered anything to make me think I had a problem (being a white guy). Just go and be a decent human being and you'll be fine.

My advice is not to go. Native Hawaiians HATE Americans even more than native American Indians do. After I watched a documentary about how MODERN America has devastated the islands, I swore from that day on never to step foot in those islands as long as I live.

First, use lots of sunscreen!

Second, you won't face hostility unless you act like a racist jerk - so try not to be bigoted, and I'm sure your Asian and Pacific Islander neighbors will get along with you just fine!

Are you gay? You can get some information on the island, using Wikipedia. It might probably help you in some way for what you are looking for.
