definitely not! i went to a private school in thailand and they lend us textbook.. we just had to pay a deposit fee which we'll get back when we leave... i go to a private school in america now and i have to buy textbooks which is really expensive not to mention how much the high school tuition cost.

advantage: new edition books, better for student's education, you'll take better care of it cuz u paid for it, u can also sell it later after school yr is done

disadvantage: very expensive, unupdated information, still can't write on the book if u're gonna sell it later, unessesary spending because school will continue to use that edition for at least 5 yrs anyways, get paid back just around 20-30% of orginal price paid for even though the book haven't been touch but is considered used when sell later

I really don't get the question, I just don't understand how you can take a course and not have the textbook...
However, I think it's insane to buy the books at the bookstore... they're just too expensive... I have found a lot of my books cheaper on half.com or have even burrowed them from some friends.

Advantage: Get better textbooks
When governments pay for them they may be old and used

Disadvantage: Not all people can afford textbooks
This is making education open to some and not all

(those are main points I could think of, sorry I couldn't provide more)

Of course they should, however they shouldn't have to pay such outragious prices for them. Several hundred dollars for one book, who do these authors think they are, the oil companies?
