In life...where there are no designated speed limits.

There are some who believe that slow and steady wins the race, and there are others who would caution that fools rush in where angels fear to tread. If I was to play the Devil's advocate I would to have to say (in balance) that the inscription on the reverse of the coin may well read 'If you live your life in fear, tied to your obligations, punished by feelings of guilt, you never discover much of anything'.
It's far too oft quoted, but speed is relative to the observer and I doubt my humble answer will help you find Veritas, the Truth we all seek. Perhaps, it is best that I leave you to ponder some more, for in the end only you can mike up your mind on the question.

Good question. Never really backed off to look at daily existence from that aspect alone. I must say I really don't know.

I note a couple said intuition. But what keys the intuition? Could there be designated speed limits that we don't think about or know about?

It has been known for years that drivers, on average, will drive at a speed safe for the nature of the road and its conditions. If the user average is 45 and you post it for 35 the tendency of drivers will still be to do closer to 45. Posted at 55 the average will tend toward 45. This is over simplified but you get the idea.

Take a school of fish. They seem to turn in perfect unison both with regard to speed and angle. Sparrows and other groups of small birds flying together do unison moves also. Humans don't seem to be able to get together at that level without a lot of drill, practice and instruction.

May be a survival thing and part of old hunting instinct. Finally can we say that we really know when to slow down or speed up. Not everybody does and not every person is consistent in timing be it life, love or business.

Answer --- I don't know but I intend to find out.

I don't. I often criticise myself for moving at a million miles an hour, with no regard for the safety of others. And then I admonish the Universe for moving too slowly to keep pace with me. The Universe sits back, patiently, and says nothing. It knows I'll burn out like the Bright Star I am, in a few days, and return to a more sedate pace.

I go as fast as long as it feels good. When I see a "speed bump", I slow down to avoid damage...then it's off on another adventure.

I go slow all the time.Over the last sixty years it seems that the solution to creating happiness is to "go slow". The old addage "haste makes waste" seems to be true.

when you come to a sharp corner or a bump in the road (in life) you slow down and take it easy, once you're clear it's pedal to the metal baby and rock on!!!!!!

If you want to maintain control over yourself, always do what you don't want to do, in order to break your momentum. You must learn to hold to the difficult...
