OK, a site that functions like myspace but is better? Nah, I've found nothing is better than good old myspace.
But if you want to interact with people and entertain yourself at the same time, then look into the world of online gaming. Whether it's just playing solitaire or yahtzee or whatever against another person, or whether you join a virtual community like http://www.secondlife.com or (and this one isn't just for the kiddies; despite what it looks like, there's all ages playing it) http://www.neopets.com or perhaps war games are your thing. That way you can interact with your fellow players AND keep yourself from getting bored. :)

Facebook

It's great because it's pretty what much myspace should have been, but unfortunately without all the customization you can do.
On facebook you will find many of your friends, and if you are at University - pretty much EVERYONE is on it!

You can bid for prize packages (like movie tickets and cash) with or without your cell phone and score points for free stuff.

As a previous poster mentioned, IMVU is great. Only trouble is there are more girls than guys and they've had problems with pedophiles. Yuck.
