perhaps a list of fish that are compatible with batas?

That would be a very, very long list indeed. No way to list all of the fish compatable with bettas. Look for any peaceful community fish large enough the betta can't eat it and small enough it can't eat the betta. Avoid fin nippers like tiger barbs. Follow these basic guidelines and you should be fine.

This all depends on the size of your aquarium. It needs to be huge. I used to have a Betta with Guppies and Angel fish, he actually bit the Angelfish fins a bit and he ate the little baby guppies. You are better off not to put him in with other fish. Tropical fish need a heater and Bettas don't need one, they also like different food. The ones he left alone where the clown fish and the cat fish and the shark. But any fish that bears young one's like Guppies, Swordfish and Chiclids you can't have in the same tank with a Betta.

I have tetras and angelfish with my betta. The whole situation is working out great. Definetely reccomend it.

any fish is compatible with a betta, as long as they are either bigger, or there are more of them then there are of the betta.
