Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. It's the mnemonic for the order of operations. Do what's in the parentheses, then the exponents, then multiplication, division, addition, and subtration.

so for 5-3(2x+1) you first have to work out -3(2x+1)

= -6x -3 (distributive property)

Then add the 5 to that:

= -6x -3 +5

= 2 - 6x

(x+1)-(1-x) = x+1-1+x = 2x

5-3(2x+1) = 5-(6x+3) = 2 - 6x

6x-3(2x+8) = 6x-(6x+24) = -24

8x-(2-x) = 8x-2+x = 9x - 2

(x+1)-(1-x):
u distribute the negative to the second parenthesis

x+1-1+x:
then u simplify

2x is ur answer
