"Lee" is also a middle name used in my husband's family due to the fact that they are related to General Lee. However, in my family the tradition is to use the fathers first name as the 1st son's middle name (My grandpa was William-don't know his middle name, my dad is Richard William, and my brother is Sean Richard) If you don't have a tradition, start one if you like.

You can really do anything you want. Some families have traditions, some people just like to give first or middle names of other family members to their children. I'm not sure about South American traditions.

In Nicaragua it's a tradition if the child is the first of the marriage, the woman always have the final word about the name,
Usually if it's a boy they name him after the father or grandfather, if it's a girl they name her after the mom or a close friend of the mom

but...

since southamerica is very religious (catholic most fo all) they name the babies after a saint , for example, if the kid was born on st. joseph day, they name him after joseph.. and so on

In the Hmong tradition, most older daughters are name Mai. Mostly, girls are name after a flower or the sun, moon and stars due to the beauties they create to the world. Boys usually have names that mean masculine or respectful. It is totally up to you. I named my daughters an American name but they have a Hmong name that mean Shining Moon, Hope and our son Hmong name means Strong.

It's Jewish tradition to name the baby after someone who has died, never after someone living. And you can't use the exact name, but you use the first initial. My son is named Alexander Geoffrey, for my grandfather Albert and grandmother Gladys.

In my family though the name "Lee" has been used through the years for a middle name.
Like see my papa's middle name & my daddy's middle name is lee and so is mine so i had to put it into my son's name too.

In Latin America, babies are often named after the saint whose day they were born on. Also, the mother's last name is used as the child's last name.
