Hi friend,
Actually this is nice question...
And u know this year acadamy award was given by voting in web site for each films...
Then obviously - Departed will win in that voting...[di caprio, mark wahlberg, matt damon,jack nickolson's - all their fans will vote for this film and they will make it win] and for Babal - only brad pitts fan will vote for that movie.
and the persons who use internet is persons who is somwat young and they don like that much of slow movies and so they wouldhave voted to that movie.
and mainly some even havent heard of babal b'coz of not realeased in many theatres in all over the world. and departed is very famous and this also increase the votes..
ohcourse babal is award type movie - slow and all other things were there...but Departed got in the voting..
Actually Departed is filled with gr8 artists and very gr8 expectations all over the world for award...So they don hav any choice too..
And to honour the director is also may b one of the reason..?
And i think BAbel lost b'coz of peoples like us using internet and voted to departed a lot than babel..!!

While The Departed was lacking in interest at some points, the end of Babel sucked.

Quite Simple, Babel lost to the Departed, because the Academy decided to fix a huge error and honor Martin Scorsese for all of the work he has done.

Of the two Departed was a bit clearer. Otherwise both are babble.

i would have to blame it all on brad pitt!! he was too busy dealing with his wife/master to fully give his whole attention to the movie, that and he did go against martin of all people
