in book 3 she gets a 104 degree fever so eric gives her some asprin and takes her to sleep in his cabin because her friends were drunk and noisy. nothing else happened except that he just slept next to her.
"He couldn't stand to watch her shake. He got up and came over to her....to her great astonishment and joy, he lay down alongside her..." that's all that happened.

It's probably in the book - I haven't read it yet, but there is the insinuation that something happened.
Whether it's sex, or just making out - or maybe she just backed out when she knew she wasn't doing the right thing.
Have you read the book? That might have the answer. Movies always cut out important factors.
