planning on building a old gran prix style car using a motor of this type. I wanted to use a regular mid-rear tranversally mounted but that seemed costly and I liked the idea of a stock high-revving engine such as a superbike engine

Neither Yamaha or Suzuki sell to private individuals.
You'll have to buy bike retail and sell all the parts you don't need/want.For a nearly new motor try insurance sales or bike breakers (junk yards) There is always e-bay?
If you do see bikes or engines 'new in crate' they are either stolen or used.

i will sell you an engine, i also offer a chrome dipping service along with mufflers and other misc. trick outs. what amount of money do you have to spend? and what other r1 parts do you need? are you building a go cart? nun uv my bissness jest curious!!!!!
