Wow. Well, the short answer is this. One thing at a time is the only way. Now, I'll tell you something that'll make it a whole lot easier and a whole lot less confusing and a whole lot less of a burden. Give your life to the Lord and trust in Him to make the changes in you that need to be made (you may think you know what they are, but you may not even know what they are). John 3:16 in the Bible will help. So will Proverbs 3:5 & 6. I am telling you this after many years of trial and error as a Christian (37). It is the truth--really. But whether or not you take my advice about letting God do it, (it really is the best way), the only way is one thing at a time.

You wake up in the morning, after a really bad night of drinking, only to find that the toilet is stopped up, the garbage is overflowing, two windows are broken, someone stole your kitchen table, the car needs oil, you haven't shaved in three days, you smell like the underbelly of a rat, and your shoes have no shoelaces.
Do you:
a) go back to bed
b) take care of things in the order which you are most capable and most involved (shower and shave first)
c) try to do everything at once (good luck)
Physical and emotional problems are pretty much tackled in the same way. Trying to do everything at once usually means nothing gets done, or gets done poorly. Concentrate on the easy stuff first, the stuff you know you can do, and work your way to the hard stuff.

When I make changes to myself, I try to break the changes up into little blocks to work on. That way I feel like I've accomplished a great deal--not bits and pieces of many tasks.

Depends on what it is that you need to change about yourself and the reasons that you need to do it. If it is for someone else, figure out if you are just doing it to please them or if it is really something that is necessary. Regardless of any of it, its a personal decision that no one but you can really know what the answers are.

Well...."they" say if you're trying to quit drinking, quit smoking, and quit excessive eating, that you should only quit one of these at a time---or you will fail at all.
"They" say that you can quit the second thing after you are comfortable about quitting the first thing, and so on...
