I just got a new pair of Dansko leather sandals that have a leather strap around the big toe and and a strap of leather across the top of my foot. I know they will be good once I break them in but oh goodness how that toe strap hurts! HELP! Is there any tricks to making this as painless as possible?

Ask another person to break it in for you. That's the most painless way I know. Good luck looking for that person though...

Put them on with a pair of heavy socks & push thoest toes through to stretch the leather a little bit. Just wear them araound the house with the socks for a few hours & that should stretch them out just right.

Well, the way I did it with my combat boots was to soak them in water for about an hour, then I wore them until they were most of the way dried; the boots are contoured to my feet now and I couldn't be happier with them.

Although, I had to waterproof them after that, so the shape of the leather wouldn't change. I don't know if it works the same with sandals but, if it works with boots, then why not?

Place band aids and maybe even pieces of cotton wool underneath. This will prevent the strap from digging into the foot and also stretch it into a shape, where it eventually doesn't hurt.

Pee on them while you wear them. I know it sounds funny or gross. But the chemicals you'd bye for leather softening are the same chemicals in pee.
