Bill killed her because he thought she was betraying the gang. I don't remember the exact details, but all versions show it differently. The Polanski version had her being hit by some blunt object. I read the book, but I don't remember the exact details.

Bill killed her because he thought that she had something to do with Oliver being found and Bill's and Fagin's crime ring being exposed. He beat her to death with a club or bare hands in some versions.
