No they can not communicate between each other, You either need a router or a serial connection between the 2. You can get a serial connection cable (for transfering files between 2 computers) but I would invest in a router they are reasonable (under $30) you don't need the best out there just to transfer files and share internet connection...thanks

A CROSS OVER CABLE is what you need it will allow you to network both computers (make them talk to each other) although a router is one of the best ways to go, but the crossover cable is the least expensive

Here is a great website for all your computer needs they have everything at dealer cost most of the time and if you join their yahoo group they will be able to keep you posted on up and coming deal and they have well trained techs that will give you plenty of how-to advice.

you can NOT use a straight cable , it needs to be a crossover cable to swap the transmit and receive pairs to connect two ethernet adaptors directly.

You dont need a router , you just can use a crossover cable or an ethernet hub.

Yes...

You need a crossover cable to make the connection. Do not forget to enable print/ file sharing on both computers.

You need to buy a crossover cable. Do not use a standard cable!

No.

You need the router. There is a way around this, but it's a massive tweak and not worth the effort since routers are cheap.
